TEARS Animal Rescue

WHAT THEY DO

TEARS Animal Rescue is a pro-life animal rescue and treatment shelter whose mission is to provide a sanctuary for companion animals in need, striving to end abandonment, neglect and abuse of animals in the communities they serve through the delivery of medical assistance, humane education, rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming services. They strive to reduce the impact of animal overpopulation and disease by providing free sterilisations, vaccinations and education to qualifying lower income communities. They aim to provide unconditional love, care and holistic support for all the animals under their care to ensure that they are eligible for adoption and they can find their forever homes. By far the biggest challenge being faced by animal welfare organisations in South Africa as a direct result of COVID-19 is the increasingly high number of abandoned, sick, neglected and abused animals that need to be rescued, treated, rehabilitated and rehomed as a direct result of animal over-population and uncontrolled breeding.

IMPACT

The Scheinberg Relief Fund has funded the purchase and equipping of a second dedicated TEARS Mobile Veterinary Clinic which will enable TEARS to extend its community outreach and animal healthcare services to more impoverished areas experiencing animal over-population, abuse, neglect and starvation. Four months funding has also been provided to TEARS’ ‘Covid Relief Rescue and Treatment Programme’ which is specifically targeting the increase in number of vulnerable companion animals, rescuing, treating, sterilising, vaccinating and rehabilitating them.
