SA Harvest rescues and redistributes quality, nourishing surplus food (perishable and non-perishable) to a wide range of beneficiary organisations which feed vulnerable people on a daily basis across South Africa. At the same time SA Harvest develops sustainable programmes within communities that will ensure food sovereignty for them in the long term.
Support from the Scheinberg Relief Fund has provided a major boost to SA Harvest’s ability to increase its delivery of meals from 5,000 a week prior to lockdown to more than 60,000 per week during lockdown. The Fund has also contributed to SA Harvest’s ability to put in place a conceptual platform, which will enable it to provide holistic, sustainable solutions in the waste / hunger / agri-food paradigm in South Africa well into the future. On the ground, SA Harvest is now delivering to more than 30 vetted beneficiaries who, combined, are responsible for feeding approximately 10,000 to 15,000 people per day.
SA Harvest is scaling up, in the short-term, to deliver 100 000 meals per week, double its beneficiary organisations and continue up-skilling the organisation to meet the demands of its advanced and sustainable programme for reducing hunger and food waste in South Africa.
