Masks for Medics

WHAT THEY DO

Masks for Medics is a collaboration between doctors and healthcare workers who are on the frontline treating those infected with COVID-19. Their aim is to equip community health-workers with the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required to keep themselves and others safe. Masks for Medics supplies gloves, visors, gowns, surgical masks, high risk masks (N95/KN95/FFP2), sanitiser, thermometers, pulse oximeters and essential monitoring equipment to nurses, care-givers to the elderly, emergency responders, doctors, mental health workers, palliative care workers, and anyone who is caring for very sick COVID-19 patients in their own homes.

IMPACT

Funding has been provided by the Scheinberg Relief Fund to cover the PPE needs of 116 care homes for the elderly (with 11,041 residents and 6,527 staff) across the Greater Metropole of Cape Town for 3 months, to supply the PPE required to protect St John Ambulance’s community care workers for 6 months, as well as core funding towards Masks for Medics overheads and expenses for 6 months.
