D.O.G Rescue Cyprus

WHAT THEY DO

D.O.G Rescue Cyprus is a registered charity in both Cyprus and has support andd back up by a UK charity which was created to support D.O.G Rescue Cyprus’s dogs adopted in the UK.  The Charity is dedicated to rescuing abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs in Cyprus. They go on to find the rescued dogs forever homes in the EU and the UK. COVID-19 prevented D.O.G. Rescue from being able to unite adopted dogs with their new families in the UK as aeroplanes were grounded. This had a huge knock on effect. With dogs not leaving the shelter and new dogs entering, it quickly surpassed its capacity. There was no space for newly rescued dogs to enter the shelter. The additional dogs generated significant additional work and expenses while income dropped significantly as supporters lost their jobs and adoptions ground to a halt.

IMPACT

With international air travel significantly impacted by COVID-19, D.O.G. Rescue Cyprus was unable to secure space on a commercial flight to transport over 80 of their rescued dogs to their new families in the UK. The Scheinberg Relief Fund helped by covering the additional expense of chartering a flight. Like many animal welfare charities D.O.G. Rescue Cyprus has seen a significant fall in income as a direct result of the pandemic. The fund has provided support to cover the shelter’s overheads for 6 months and towards the construction of new facilities on land loaned to them by the Municipal Government.
