The Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough has been serving its community since 1956. Each year the Club provides service to over 5,000 children and youth in over 19 locations throughout the East Scarborough community. Programmes include licensed childcare, early years programs, before & afterschool programs, camps, sports/recreation & leadership development . The Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough strives to meet the changing needs of its community and continue to make East Scarborough ‘ a good place to be’.
During these unprecedented times where economic opportunities have changed for many, the Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough has noticed a great need for food security in the East Scarborough community. Over the last couple of months, the Club has managed to create and execute an Emergency Food Security programme that offers families weekly delivered family meal kits, hot meals, family and/or individual hygiene kits, and crafts/educational learning packages for children and youth.
The funding received from the Scheinberg Relief Fund is supporting The Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough’s emergency food services which are being delivered directly to families and individuals residing in underserved neighborhoods. From August 2020 the programme successfully delivers approximately 150 meal kits (perishable and non-perishable food items), 325 hot meals, 500 additional meals through Second Harvest and 250 prepackaged meals weekly to further assist families in enhancing their food security.
