APAO CAT

WHAT THEY DO

APAO Cat is a cat sanctuary dedicated to the rescue, shelter and rehoming of abandoned cats whom due to their special circumstances (disabilities, illnesses, age, or unsociable character) are not rescued or given a second chance by other charities. APAO Cat provide a safe home for more than 183 cats who are grouped into one of 4 different areas: sociable cats, ill cats, cats with feline leukemia, cats with socialization issues. APAO Cats offers a forever home to the cats it rescues and for whom rehoming is not possible. APAO provides a safe and warm environment and all the necessary veterinary assistance and special care to ensure they live a healthy and happy life. Covid-19 has hit APAO hard. While income and sponsorships dropped, the number of abandoned and mistreated cats rose steadily. APAO has rescued 30 more cats than their annual average which led to unexpected veterinary and medical expenses and an urgent need to expand their premises.

IMPACT

The Scheinberg Relief Fund provided funding: to increase the capacity of APAO’s shelter by facilitating the construction of a new area specifically for the older cats, thereby making space for new arrivals; to rehabilitate their nursing area to enable in-home veterinary attention which will reduce the organisation’s monthly expenses; to ensure APAO Cat can meet its increasing medical expenses; and to create and implement a fundraising strategy to diversify their source of income, raise additional funds and ensure the organization is economically more secure.
