Animal Rescue España

WHAT THEY DO

Animal Rescue España (ARE) is an animal welfare organisation that rescues abandoned and abused animals from municipalities throughout Spain. ARE’s main mission is to provide care and a temporary home for the animals they have rescued in its shelter in Madrid, where they remain until they are adopted by a family that provides the animal with the stable and loving home it deserves. Animal Rescue Spain helps an average of 250 animals per year and has successfully re-homed more than 900 dogs and 200 cats since its foundation in 2014.

Alongside its principle work rescuing and rehoming animals, ARE reports situations of animal abuse and has developed and delivered numerous educational and awareness raising activities with the objective of bringing about lasting change in how society treats animals. Their activities include giving talks at schools, weekly public engagement/awareness raising activities in the centre of Madrid, making television appearances and collaborating with municipalities.

IMPACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted Animal Rescue España’s ability to generate income while demand for their services has increased. The Scheinberg Relief Fund has ensured ARE can meet its operating costs until March 2021 and complete on the purchase of the property on which the shelter is located, thus securing a permanent home for ARE.
