1 World Medical (1WM) was formed at the onset of the pandemic by a GP and a surgeon who were compelled to act to help address the shortage of PPE available to frontline healthcare colleagues. Through collaborations with a range of non-medical creatives, 1WM has facilitated out of the box solutions that have resulted in large donations of PPE to hospitals across London.
With the effects of a shortage of PPE across elderly care homes making headlines, 1WM teamed up with the Commissioning Alliance, a public-private partnership, which during the pandemic had become the largest coordinated PPE suppliers to the social care sector across all 33 London Local Authorities. In partnership, 1WM and the Commissioning Alliance have made it possible for the general public to donate PPE directly to elderly care homes across London in an effective and equitable way, ensuring care workers are kept safe and are able to protect the elderly they so selflessly serve.
The Scheinberg Relief Fund donated 1 million Type IIR surgical masks to the 1 World Medical – Commissioning Alliance Partnership, which they have successfully distributed to over 700 care homes across London. The donation will provide protection to thousands of care workers and the elderly people they care for. This donation of masks has the potential to save thousands of lives and reduce the burden the pandemic is placing on the NHS.
