5n2 has been providing free meals to communities in Scarborough, Toronto since 2013. It started as a soup kitchen and has continued to feed, support and care for the most vulnerable. Since the onset of COVID-19, it has expanded its reach adding new programs: the 5n2 Garden Project, Free Food Pantry and EdU, serving over 3,500 people weekly in some of the most underserved areas of the city.
The Scheinberg Relief Fund is supporting 5n2 as it adapts to meet the multiple challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds have been directed to restart its Meals2U programme that delivers fresh meals and grocery support to those in isolation and at risk. A crucial need for additional staff and infrastructure is being met through this support, which has enabled 5n2 to plan and implement more sustainable operations.
